Guess? Inc. announced Friday that it will immediately cease to use Angora wool, which comes from the coats of Angora rabbits.
A ban on Angora wool, obtained by shearing, has long been advocated by animal rights activists, who consider the manner in which the rabbits are kept to be cruel.
A statement from Los Angeles-based Guess? provided little of the thinking behind the move but said the decision arose last year as the company was “developing our sustainability practices and publishing our first sustainability report.”
“Effective immediately, angora fiber should not be used in the production of any product going forward or contained in any private label products. This pertains to promotional items as well,” the statement said.
